Education + Engagement
The Imagine Austin Speaker Series program was initiated in the Fall of 2012, and since then, has conducted 46 speaker series, often with multiple events, and attended by approximately 5,600 people.
At its core, the Imagine Austin Speaker Series is an opportunity to promote and implement the policies in the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan, through shared dialogue and mutual learning. We accomplish this by inviting compelling thought-leaders and speakers, both locally and nationally to give several talks a year in fields such as land use planning, transportation, housing, public health, social equity, and environmental sustainability to promote and implement Imagine Austin policies.

The City of Austin Housing and Planning Department, where the Imagine Austin Speaker Series is housed, often works in collaboration with other City departments and outside organizations, to educate and highlight best practices, innovative public policies, and/or new City initiatives, or programming.
The Covid-19 pandemic, associated social distancing requirements and budgetary issues forced the cancellation of five speaker series and one walking tour for the 2020 speaker season. In 2021, the speaker series switched to a webinar based speaker series, instead of live speaker events, with the same opportunity to interact with speakers via a question and answer session.
