Internal Alignment

CityCouncil.JPG

In early 2018, City Council adopted a citywide Strategic Direction for the next three to five years. Since then, City of Austin operations, departments, and priority programs have been working towards aligning our efforts to advance the outcomes as outlined in the plan. Together we strive to create a city of complete communities where every Austinites has choices at every stage of life that allow us to experience and contribute to the following outcomes:

Strategic Direction 2023

  • Economic Opportunity and Affordability: Having economic opportunities and resources that enable us to thrive in our community

  • Mobility: Getting us where we want to go, when we want to get there, safely and cost-effectively

  • Safety: Being safe in our home, at work, and in our community

  • Health and Environment: Enjoying a sustainable environment and a healthy life, physically and mentally

  • Culture and Lifelong Learning: Being enriched by Austin's unique civic, cultural, ethnic, and learning opportunities

  • Government That Works for All: Believing that city government works effectively and collaboratively for all of us - that it is equitable, ethical and innovative

Permitting and Development Center

In 2020, construction was completed on the new Permitting and Development Center. For the first time, all 14 city departments will be located together, providing a seamless development experience.  This move puts all employees involved with the development process into one City-owned facility where critical development functions will remain unified. City Manager Spencer Cronk reported that the move will provide new opportunities to improve processes, while building better internal and external customer service.  The building brings together the right people, processes, and technology to streamline services for the people in our community who are envisioning and building the Austin of tomorrow. The new Permitting and Development Center is designed to reflect the values set out in the City of Austin’s vision and organizational mission. It provides an ideal environment to cultivate our unique culture by encouraging collaboration, supporting improved employee well-being, and helping to attract and retain talented staff. The healthy, uplifting environment will enhance the customer experience, putting our core values to work every day, in a variety of ways, to broaden our reach and increase our positive impact on the community we serve.

The PDC is expected to open to the public by the end of this year and once Covid-19 Stay Home Work Safe orders are lifted.
